Althea is a perennial plant that can grow wild but also be cultivated. It grows up to a height of 2 to 4 feet, it has serrated leaves and the flowers vary in colour from white and light red to purple.

Properties and Use

It has a demulcent, diuretic and emollient effect and it is mostly used for soothing irritated tissue. It can be used externally for any skin damage and, internally, it makes a good vaginal wash. It may, as well, be used for coughs, bronchitis, asthma.
