Rectocele
A bulging downwards and inwards of the back wall of the vagina which occurs as a result of the rectum pushing against weakened tissues within the vaginal wall. A rectocele is often associated with a cystocele (protrusion of the bladder into the front wall of the vagina) or a prolapsed uterus. There may be no symptoms or the rectocele can sometimes cause constipation. Pelvic floor exercise can help to elevate symptoms. If the exercises are unable to help, an operation to tighten the back of the vagina can be required.
