Reactive depression

A term that used to be used to describe a form of depression (feelings of hopelessness, sadness, and a lack of interest in life) resulting from an emotional or stressful event or period of life. In contrast to this, a different type of depression known as ‘endogenous depression’ was seen to originate from biological factors within an individual. In most cases, however, depression is a combination of both these types.
