Juvenile muscular atrophy

A type of muscle atrophy (weakness and wasting) that arises in children and adolescents, and is caused by an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. Muscle atrophy is most visible in the legs, and later the arms. Respiratory muscles can also be involved. Many affected children ultimately become wheelchair reliant.
