Jaw, fractured

A fracture of the jaw bone, most usually brought on by a direct blow. A minor fracture can cause pain and tenderness, particularly when biting. In severe cases, jaw movement is limited, and there can be loss of feeling in the chin and lower lip.

Minor fractures are usually left to heal on their own. Severe fractures with bone displacement, however, need surgery and immobilisation of the jaw (wiring of the jaw).
