Gigantism
Extreme growth (particularly in height) throughout childhood or adolescence that occurs from overproduction of growth hormone by a tumour of the pituitary gland. If left untreated, the tumour can compress other hormone-producing cells in the gland, creating symptoms of hormone deficiency.
People with gigantism can be treated with a drug that blocks the release of growth hormone, or they can have to have radiotherapy or surgery to destroy or remove the pituitary tumour.
