Degos syndrome

A rare disorder that affects the linings of tiny and medium sized arteries throughout the body, especially in the nervous system, skin and intestine, this then causes the vessels to become blocked. The cause of this is unidentified.

The disease typically produces multiple small skin lesions that first of appear as raised, red spots and then form white, depressed scars. Lesions can then form in arteries supplying other parts of the body, for example the intestine and the nervous system. This development cause severe or possible life threatening problems, such as a stroke from lesions that have formed in the brain and perforation of the intestine by lesions that pierce through the intestinal walls.
