Xanthomatosis

Yellow coloured fatty deposits which appear in various parts of the body, especially the skin, internal organs, corneas, brain and tendons.  It may occur solely on the eyelids (xanthelasma).  There tends to be fatty material deposited around the linings of the blood vessels and leads to generalised atherosclerosis.  It is often associated with hyperlipidaemias (raised levels of fats in the blood).  Treatment is targeted at the hyperlipidaemia, and aims to lower the fat level through diet, and also drug treatment.
