Ventricular ectopic beat

A type of cardiac arrhythmia in which abnormal heartbeats are initiated from electrical impulses within the ventricles (the lower chambers) of the heart. In a normal heart, beats are initiated by the sinoatrial mode in the right hand side atrium.

Ventricular ectopic beats can be detected on the ECG. For widespread abnormal heartbeats that are causing symptoms, or beats that arise from more than one site in the ventricles, an arrhythmic drug may be required.
