Unstable angina

A type of angina pectoris (chest pain due to impaired blood supply to the heart) that occurs during sleep or without provocation (pain is often provoked by exercise in angina). The term can also refer to angina that is becoming more severe and frequent. Unstable angina is a medical emergency due to the high risk of myocardial infarction (heart attack). Drugs are administered and angioplasty can be required.
